AFC Quarry re asserted themselves as firm favourites for the Division One title at the weekend after a culmination of their comfortable 4-0 win over Styal FC and Old Alts’ damaging 2-1 defeat away at Sale Rovers. A brace from Hayes and a goal a piece for Williamson and Emmett saw Quarry bounce back excellently from their defeat at Alts the weekend previous, whilst a superb late strike from Rovers’ Alan Dolan sent the visitors away with nothing from a closely contested match. Alts’ Mark O’Sullivan had cancelled out Stuart Thomas’ first half opener, however, Dolan had the final say, moving Rovers up one place in the table to sixth and leaving Alts twelve points off the pace with just two games in hand on the leaders Quarry. Elsewhere in the top flight, Salford AFC remained in fourth spot despite a 5-0 thrashing of Old York 06, Atlantic FC moved upto fifth place after narrowly beating Heatonmoor Phoenix 0-1 and the matches involving Cringlewood Athletic and Knutsford FC and Sale Amateurs and Kartel Sports were postponed. Meanwhile in the second tier, Wilmslow Sports increased their lead at the top of the table to six points after they battered Conway Rangers 9-2. Their nearest challengers Irlam FC had their game against Unicorn Athletic called off which meant that second place was up for grabs as third placed AFC Partington hosted fourth placed Lounge About FC; the latter coming out 2-4 winners. In the two other games played, Wythenshawe Town overcame Northenden Victoria by three goals to two and consequently moved above their opponents in the table to seventh and Brooklands FC shared the spoils with Timperley Wanderers in a 3-3 draw. Egerton FC’s scheduled meeting with Trafford United was postponed.
