Altrincham and District Amateur Football League

Saturday 10th, November 2007.

Due to numerous postponements, there were only four matches played at the weekend; three in the Altrincham FA Senior Cup and one in ADAFL’s Division Two. Division Two outfight Timperley Wanderers pulled off the biggest shock of the cup’s second round so far when they overcame the odds to beat top flight side Northenden Village by four goals to three. Broadheath Central, who currently find themselves second in Division One, also came out victorious in their heavyweight clash with the league leaders Knutsford FC, 1-0 the final score. In the one other tie Kartel Sports superior quality shone through as they beat Brooklands FC 5-1. As for Division Two, Styal FC’s recent poor form continued as they dropped two more points away at NCC Group in a goalless draw. After winning their opening four games Styal have now gone three league games without a win; a run which has seen them fall to fifth place in the table.

Saturday 17th, November 2007.

The top three sides in Division One all won last weekend and in doing so created a three point gap between themselves and the rest of the league. The league leaders, Knutsford, made it eight wins out of eight games with a 5-3 away win but they were made to work hard for it by a battling Kartel Sports outfit. Broadheath Central and King George however, both kept the pressure on Knutsford thanks to comfortable home victories. Broadheath overcame newly promoted Old York 06, coming out with a 3-1 victory whilst King George saw off close rivals Stretford Victoria, 3-0 the final score. Elsewhere in the top flight, Northenden Village picked up three points for the first time this season thanks to an impressive 4-2 triumph against mid-table Atlantic FC and Quarry Bank’s dismal start to the season continued after they leaked nine goals against a Trafford FC side who had only won one game in the league prior to Saturday. In Division Two Sale Amateurs reclaimed top spot as a result of their 3-0 success away at NCC Group. Nevertheless, second placed The Bridge Sale and third placed Cringlewood Athletic could both leapfrog Sale as they both find themselves within touching distance having played two games less. The Bridge Sale didn’t play at the weekend but Cringlewood recorded a notable 4-2 away win at fourth placed Styal FC. Meanwhile there were home wins for Fernley FC (4-2) and Northenden Victoria (6-1) against Salford AFC and Old Alts respectively and away victories for Sale Rovers at Timperley Wanderers (3-0) and Brooklands FC at Trafford United (4-2).

Saturday 24th, November 2007.

Broadheath Central moved to within three points of league leaders Knutsford FC at the weekend after they thrashed Atlantic FC by five goals to one. Knutsford were scheduled to play in a heavyweight clash with third placed King George but the match was postponed, as was Kartel Sports meeting with Northenden Village. In Division Two Cringlewood Athletic came out winners in their crunch meeting with The Bridge Sale and in doing so went to the top of the table. Had Sale Amateurs not recorded a surprise home defeat against Trafford United they would have still found themselves at the peak of Division Two, but as it was they succumbed to a 3-2 loss. Elsewhere fourth placed Styal FC got back to winning ways with a 3-1 home win against Salford AFC but they still find themselves neck a neck with Timperley Wanderers after they overcame bottom side Old Alts, 4-2 the final score. In the only other game, 6th in the table Sale Rovers drew 2-2 with NCC Group, the side directly below them. There was also one League Cup Round One tie played which saw Trafford FC stretch Stretford Victoria’s losing streak to three games with a 4-2 away victory.

                                                                                                                        Saturday1st December 2007

Broadheath Central moved to the top of Division One at the weekend after they recorded a 4-1 win, away at Kartel Sports. Knutsford FC, now in second place, do have two games in hand on the new leaders but will also be feeling the pressure from third placed King George who beat Trafford FC by three goals to nil. The side making up the top four, Stretford Victoria, have lost considerable ground on those above them over the past few weeks, having lost their two most recent league games prior to the weekend, and it didn’t go to plan on Saturday either. They failed to overcome ninth placed Northenden Village in a match that ended 3-3. The meeting between Atlantic FC and Quarry Bank was postponed. In Division Two the standout result was Salford AFC’s 9-1 drubbing of Timperley Wanderers, a team currently two places above them in the table. Gavin Johnson (3), Carl Worthington (3), Greg Mcavoy (2) and Pez Anderson (1) were all on the score sheet as Salford went goal crazy in a comfortable home win. Elsewhere, The Bridge Sale regained top spot after a culmination of their 3-2 home victory against Fernley FC and Cringlewood Athletics’ surprise 2-2 draw away at mid-table NCC Group. Styal FC ensured they kept in touch with the leaders thanks to a 2-0 away triumph at Trafford United and in doing so made it two wins on the trot having gone four league games without a win previously. In the one other game played bottom side Old Alts picked up a very creditable point after a 3-3 tie with the draw specialists’ Sale Rovers.

                                                                                                                        Saturday 15th,December 2007

A number of games were postponed in the ADAFL last weekend due to the weather conditions. In Division One Atlantic FC’s clash with Northenden Village was cancelled, however there were three matches played in Division Two producing 22 goals in total. Salford AFC won away at Northenden Victoria in an end to end game full of attacking football. A brace courtesy of the man of the match Simon Seaton and a goal each for Carl Worthington, Adam Crosby and Pez Anderson steered Salford to victory and moved them up one place in the table to seventh. Trafford United also grabbed all three points on their travels, thrashing bottom side Old Alts 7-2 and Styal FC missed out on the chance of going top of the table after they recorded a 2-2 draw with Brooklands FC. Two quarter finals were also played out in the Altrincham FA Senior Cup which saw Division Two high flyers Cringlewood Athletic pull off the shock of the round as they overcame the Division One Champions, Broadheath Central, by three goals to nil. King George will join Cringlewood and The Bridge Inn (they beat Styal FC 2-1 a week earlier) in the draw for the semi-final as they cruised past Kartel Sports, 5-2 the final score. Timperley Wanderers tie with Cheadle was called off and has been rearranged for a later date.

Saturday 22nd, December 2007.

Due to the postponement of eight matches across ADAFL’s Division One and Two, only two matches were played last weekend. In Division One Knutsford FC made it ten league wins in ten games after they beat third placed King George by three goals to one. The win has cemented Knutsfords position at the top of the table going into the Christmas break and they now find themselves six points clear of Broadheath having played the same amount of games as their fierce rivals. One of the main reasons behind Knutsfords perfect start to the season has been the devastating strike partnership of Hughes and Howard who have scored an incredible 29 goals between them. Steve Jenyons has also impressed and has recently been named Knutsfords best player up until this current stage of the season. Meanwhile in Division Two, Cringlewood Athletic moved to the top of the table courtesy of a 4-1 home win against a struggling Trafford United outfit. Despite losing their opening game of the season away at The Bridge Sale, Cringlewood have managed to put together an unbeaten run of nine games, seven of which have been victories.

Saturday 5th, January 2008.

Knutsford FC stretched their lead at the top of Division One to nine points at the weekend after they hit Atlantic FC for six without reply. Second placed Broadheath Central do in fact have a game in hand on the league leaders subsequent to the abandonment of their meeting with bottom side Quarry Bank but will surely go into next weeks heavyweight clash between themselves and Knutsford knowing that they can ill afford to lose the game. King George also have little margin for error if they aspire to win the league this season and to their credit they grabbed a very creditable three points away at Old York 06, 5-4 the final score. Elsewhere, Trafford FC’s match against fellow strugglers Northenden Village was postponed whilst the encounter between Kartel Sports and Stretford Victoria produced six goals in a three all draw. Two early goals courtesy of Liversedge and a third from Bell had put Stretford three goals up but Kartel showed great spirit to fight back and picked up a well deserved point thanks to goals from Everitt, Leatherbarrow and Lord. Meanwhile in Division Two table toppers Cringlewood Athletic continued in their rich vain of form to move five points in front of The Bridge Sale, albeit having played two games more than their closest rivals. Cringlewood, who have now won eight league games on the bounce, ran out 2-1 winners against Sale Amateurs and will also take delight in the fact that third placed Styal FC failed to pick up anything away at Northenden Victoria, 5-2 the final score. Timperley Wanderers who are moving up the table nicely didn’t make any such mistake although they were made to work hard by a resilient Fernley FC outfit in their 4-3 away win. In the three other games played at the weekend, the draw specialist’s Sale Rovers continued to live up to their billing after a 2-2 draw away at Brooklands FC, Old Alts picked up their first win of the season beating Salford AFC 5-1 away from home and Trafford United moved up one place in the table to tenth as a result of their comfortable 4-0 home victory over NCC Group.

Saturday 12th, January 2008.

Knutsford FC took a massive step towards winning the ADAFL Division One championship at the weekend after they beat their closet rivals, Broadheath Central, by five goals to four. Having gone 4-1 down the holders Broadheath came back from a seemingly unassailable position to level the match at 4-4 but all their efforts proved to be in vain as Knutsford got the all important fifth goal. The league leaders now find themselves nine points in front of both Broadheath and King George with only six games left to play. Elsewhere in Division One, Kartel Sports notched up a home victory against a Quarry Bank side rooted to the foot of the table having failed to pick up a single point so far this season. Quarry showed great determination early on and deservedly took the lead through a Jason McCurdy strike, but Kartel came from behind to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Leatherbarrow and Palmer either side of half time. Old York 06 and Stretford Victoria also picked up three points, the former at home to Atlantic FC (5-2) and the latter away at Trafford FC (4-3). Meanwhile in Division Two, the outstanding performance of the weekend came from Salford AFC who stormed pass bottom side Fernley FC courtesy of a 7-0 drubbing. Carl Worthington and Nikki Smallwood both scored twice whilst Gavin Johnson, Pez Anderson and Greg McAvoy chipped in with the rest. Sale Rovers drew for the seventh time this season at home to Styal FC but the team directly above them, Sale Amateurs, failed to capitalise as they also dropped two points away at Old Alts. There were also home wins for Brooklands FC and Trafford United against NCC Group and Northenden Victoria respectively.

Saturday 26th, January 2008.

The top three sides in Division One all won at the weekend meaning that the leaders Knutsford FC now need seven points from their five remaining games to claim the title. Knutsford maintained their 100% record with a 3-1 home victory against second from bottom Trafford FC whilst Broadheath Central and King George both picked up away wins. Broadheath increased the gap between them and Stretford Victoria to eight points thanks to their 5-2 success and King George did likewise, beating Atlantic FC 4-1. In the one other game in the top flight Old York 06 compounded Quarry Banks misery after they picked up all three points with a 4-2 triumph. Meanwhile in Division Two league leaders Cringlewood Athletic saw their impressive run of form come to an end as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sale Amateurs. The result means that the Bridge Sale, who beat Timperley Wanderers 5-1, can take top spot if they manage to take advantage of the points available in their two games in hand. Elsewhere Salford AFC won 3-2 away at Brooklands FC courtesy of a goal each from Asa Keenan, Pez Anderson and Ashley Redmond and in the battle at the bottom Fernley FC came out comfortable winners against Old Alts, scoring seven goals in the process. Northenden Victoria overcame NCC Group in a 4-3 thriller but there was nothing thrilling about the postponement of Sale Rovers meeting with Styal FC.

Saturday 2nd, February 2008.

Attention turned to the League Cup at the weekend as teams from Division one and two battled it out for a place in the third round. A massive thirty nine goals were scored across the five ties played with as many as twelve in Kartel Sports meeting with Old Alts. Goals from Leatherbarrow, Lakin (2), Gray, Gaunt, Pyne and an own goal gave Kartel a 7-5 victory in an extremely entertaining game. The top two in Division One, Knutsford FC and Broadheath Central both moved into the next stage of the competition as they both picked up 5-1 home victories. Broadheath overcame Division One strugglers Quarry Bank and strikes from Sully (2), Hughes, Atkinson and Clayton saw Knutsford go through in a game where the score line didn’t tell the whole story. Elsewhere, Sale Rovers pulled off a fantastic away win as they beat Division Two high flyers, the Bridge Sale, by six goals to two and in an all Division One clash Trafford FC, who currently lie in eighth place in the table defeated fifth placed Atlantic FC 4-3. There were in fact two games played in Division Two involving sides eliminated from the cup in the first round. An improving Fernley FC side made it four points from their last two games after they drew 1-1 at home against Brooklands FC and NCC Group picked up their first three points in eight games, edging past Timperley Wanderers in a nine goal thriller.

Saturday 9th, February 2008.

Knutsford FC moved a step closer to winning the ADAFL Division One championship at the weekend without even kicking a ball. Despite the postponement of their meeting with Old York 06, Knutsford’s nearest challengers, Broadheath Central, succumbed to an unexpected 3-2 defeat away at Trafford FC. The result leaves the champions Broadheath in a seemingly unassailable position with regards to finishing in top spot and would suggest that King George are the only side capable of challenging Knutsford for the title. Elsewhere fourth placed Stretford Victoria lost their second consecutive league game as they went down 5-4 against the team directly below them in the table, Atlantic FC and Kartel Sports 4-3 victory saw them complete a league double over Quarry Bank. Kartel had a 4-1 lead at the break thanks to two goals each from Leatherbarrow and Beasley but could have quite easily missed out on all three points as Quarry Bank piled on the pressure in the second half, scoring two goals in the process (Lowndes and McCarthy). Meanwhile in Division Two Styal FC beat Sale Amateurs by one goal to nil and in doing so overtook them into third place in the table. Sale Rovers also made headway at the weekend as they came out victorious against Salford AFC and Trafford United picked up their fifth win of the season against a struggling Fernley FC side. Timperley Wanderers are currently having problems of their own and now find themselves without a win in three league games after a 2-2 draw with Brooklands FC.

Saturday 16th, February 2008.

The Division One league leaders, Knutsford FC dropped points for the first time this season as King George recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over their rivals. With four games remaining for both sides and six points separating them, Knutsford still hold a clear advantage in the race for the title but this result shows that King George are not going to give it up without a fight. Broadheath Central on the other hand are seemingly playing for second spot having played one game more than the teams surrounding them and they certainly helped their cause at the weekend with a comfortable 7-3 home win against bottom side Quarry Bank. In the two other games played Stretford Victoria picked up their first victory in three games as they edged past Trafford FC by two goals to one and Kartel Sports also won by the same scoreline in their clash with Old York 06. Costello had given Old York the lead on the half hour mark with a bullet header but two goals within the last ten minutes courtesy of Pyne and Beasley earnt Kartel a hard fought three points. Meanwhile in Division Two, Styal FC replaced Cringlewood Athletic at the top of the table after they thrashed Old Alts 7-0 at home. Cringlewood would have stayed in pole position had they picked up at least a point away at Sale Rovers but as it was Rovers produced a marvellous display to summon Cringlewood to their third league defeat of the season. Jack Egan and Luke Finnigan grabbed the goals in a 2-0 win but it could have been a completely different story had Sale’s goalkeeper Chris Shaw not saved a penalty with Cringlewood two goals down. Elsewhere Sale Amateurs moved up one place in the table from forth to third after they saw off Salford AFC with a 3-1 win and Timperley Wanderers kept themselves in touch with the leagues frontrunners as they cruised past NCC Group, 4-0 the final score. And speaking of teams on the up, Trafford United’s incredible run of form continued as they made it four league wins on the trot thanks to their 4-3 away triumph at Northenden Victoria.

Saturday 23rd, February 2008.

Knutsford FC got back to winning ways at the weekend and in doing so moved another step closer to the Division One title. After beating the current champions Broadheath Central 3-1, Knutsford now need just four points from their three remaining games to claim the coveted trophy. King George will have without doubt preferred a Broadheath win but nevertheless they took full advantage of their failure to overcome Knutsford and moved into second spot thanks to a 3-0 away win at Quarry Bank. Elsewhere, Old York 06’s clash with Trafford FC was postponed and Atlantic FC came out on top against Kartel Sports in an eight goal thriller, 6-2 the final score. Goals from Kartel’s Pyne and Beasley were in vain as Whitecross (3), Smith and Carter fired Atlantic to their second consecutive league victory. Meanwhile in the Broadheath Central Cup (The Division Two cup) Cringlewood Athletic booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 home victory over NCC Group, however Sale Amateurs succumbed to a somewhat surprising 3-2 defeat at the hands of Salford AFC. Penalty shoot outs were required in the two other quarter final ties- nothing could separate The Bridge Sale and Fernley FC after 120 minutes but The Bridge ultimately came out victorious and Sale Rovers did likewise against a stubborn Northenden Victoria outfit. Michael Morris and Stuart Thomas grabbed the two goals for Rovers to take the game to extra time at 2-2 and Ashley Baines scored the third after Northenden Victoria had taken a 3- 2 lead, leaving the match to be decided on penalties. Rovers went on to win the shoot out after a culmination of a stunning save from their goalkeeper Chris Shaw and the conversion of the decisive penalty from Joe Quigley

Saturday 1st March 2008.

After losing 7-1 away at Atlantic FC, Quarry Bank are now just three defeats away from completing a full campaign without picking up a single point. Quarry have recorded thirteen losses in as many games and are now certainties to drop down into Division Two. In the other game played in the top flight Kartel Sports overcame second bottom Trafford FC to make it four wins out of their last five league matches. Meanwhile in Division Two, Sale Amateurs went back to the top of the table thanks to a 0-0 draw away at Timperley Wanderers. Nevertheless, the destination of the title is still firmly in the hands of The Bridge Sale who find themselves two points off the top having played between two and five games less than the four sides above them. They would have found themselves in an even stronger position had Stuart Thomas not grabbed an equaliser to earn Sale Rovers a point in their 1-1 draw with The Bridge at the weekend. Elsewhere, Salford AFC bounced back from two consecutive league defeats to overcome Brooklands FC in a 1-0 victory and in the battle at the bottom Fernley FC came out 3-2 winners at Old Alts to move themselves off the foot of the table. There were also three ties played in the second round of the league cup after they were all postponed at the beginning of last month. King George, Styal FC and Cringlewood Athletic all advanced to the quarter finals at the expense of Old York 06, Northenden Victoria and Trafford United.

Saturday 8th, March 2008.

In Division One, Trafford FC moved above Old York 06 into seventh place after they beat Quarry Bank 3-0, whilst Stretford Victoria’s clash with King George was postponed. Meanwhile in Division Two the top four sides all won. The league leaders Sale Amateurs hammered Old Alts 9-1, Styal FC edged past Fernley FC in a 5-4 victory, Cringlewood Athletic defeated Timperley Wanderers 5-1 and Sale Rovers’ eight goals saw them pick up all three points against Northenden Victoria. Goals from Michael Morris, Daniel Davies (3), Alan Dolan and Luke Finnigan (3) meant that Northenden’s two strikes from Frank Wall and Chris Gyves were in vain. Elsewhere NCC Group came out 1-0 victors in their home tie with Brooklands FC and Salford AFC earned themselves a very creditable point against the title favourites The Bridge Sale. In a match that finished 1-1, Salford scored first through Gavin Johsnon after he rounded the keeper to slot the ball home on the 20 minute mark. The Bridge failed to convert a penalty in the 42nd minute but in a very entertaining second half they managed to grab an equaliser through Andy Joyce.

Saturday 15th, March 2008.

Despite King George’s 1-0 home win against Atlantic FC at the weekend, Knutsford FC all but wrapped up the Division One Championship thanks to their 4-1 thumping of Stretford Victoria. Although unlikely in itself, King George can still draw level on points with Knutsford but with the leaders holding a much superior goal difference (+9) over their rivals the destination of the title seems to have been confirmed. Elsewhere, Kartel Sports completed their campaign in a flourish as they picked up all three points away at Old York 06. In a match that finished 3-2 to the visitors, Beasley and Gray gave Kartel a 2-0 lead at the break before Old York pulled themselves back into it on the hour mark through Samari. Beasley settled it with his second of the game, meaning that McBride’s goal fifteen minutes from time was nothing more than a consolation for Old York. Meanwhile in Division Two, Sale Amateurs maintained their position at the top of the table after they overcame Fernley FC 4-2 however, Cringlewood Athletic and The Bridge Sale certainly asserted themselves as serious challengers after they both came out victorious against sides in the top five. Cringlewood comfortably beat third placed Styal FC 3-0 and The Bridge Sale saw off a weakened Sale Rovers outfit in a 2-0 win. In the three other games played, NCC Group hammered Old Alts 7-1 to make it back to back league victories, Timperley Wanderers stuttering league form continued as they could only draw 1-1 at home to Northenden Victoria and Salford AFC thrashed Trafford United by seven goals to two. Salford’s leading scorer Worthington added four goals to his overall tally in the seven goal rout and Keenan, Kirkham and McAvoy chipped in with a goal each.

Saturday 22nd March 2008.

Knutsford FC were crowned Division One Champions at the weekend after King George failed to pick up all three points against Broadheath Central. The 2-2 draw between the sides placed second and third in the table brought about the seemingly inevitable outcome to this gruelling campaign and confirmed Knutsford as the best side in the ADAFL. Congratulations to everyone connected with the club. Quarry Bank also had an enjoyable Saturday afternoon as they picked up their first positive result of the season courtesy of a 4-2 victory away at Old York 06, and in doing so ended a run of fourteen consecutive league defeats. Meanwhile in Division Two just a single point now separates the top five after three of those came out victorious at the weekend. The Bridge Sale beat the league leaders Sale Amateurs 3-1, Sale Rovers won by the same score line away at Northenden Victoria and Styal FC edged past an out of form Timperley Wanderers, 2-0 the outcome. Elsewhere, Fernley FC brought an end to a run of two successive league defeats as they hammered NCC Group 5-1, Brooklands FC did likewise by claiming all three points in their meeting with Trafford United and Cringlewood Athletics fixture with bottom side Old Alts was postponed.

 Easter Monday.

The semi finals of the Broadheath Central Cup also took place on a bitterly cold Easter Monday in Knutsford which saw Sale Rovers and Cringlewood Athletic advance to the final, after overcoming Salford AFC and The Bridge Sale respectively. In the earlier of the two kick-offs, Sale Rovers came out 2-1winners against Salford thanks to a magnificent strike from Luke Finnigan seven minutes in and an Alan Dolan header just before the half hour mark. Salford did threaten to come back into the game on numerous occasions however Carl Worthington’s goal just after half time proved to be nothing more than a consolation as they failed to find the precious equaliser.  In the other tie, involving two genuine contenders for the Division Two title, The Bridge Sale took the lead through Joyce, only to go on to lose the match 3-1. A goal each for Dougherty, Smith and Butler completely turned the game in Cringlewood’s favour and set up an intriguing showdown with the on looking Sale Rovers.

Altrincham and District Amateur Saturday Football League

The quarter finals of the League Cup took place at the weekend producing one major shock, Styal FC’s 3-1 victory over Division One outfit, Kartel Sports. Division Two side, Styal have been rewarded with a semi final showdown against Broadheath Central who overcame Sale Rovers by three goals to nil and in the other tie Cringlewood Athletic will come up against the newly crowned Division One champions Knutsford FC. Cringlewood, who look set to gain promotion from Division Two, comfortably beat Division One strugglers Trafford FC in a 3-0 drubbing and Knutsford FC came out on top in their heavyweight clash with King George, 3-2 the final score after extra time. There was also one match played in Division One and four fixtures in Division Two. In Division One, Old York stretched their winless league run to five games as they drew 2-2 with Atlantic FC. Meanwhile in Division Two, The Bridge Sale put five points between them and second placed Sale Amateurs thanks to a 3-0 win against bottom side Old Alts. Timperley Wanderers will have to persevere in their search for a much overdue victory after they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brooklands FC, Fernley FC made it four points from the last six on offer courtesy of a 3-3 draw with Trafford United and Salford AFC and Northenden Victoria played out an eight goal thriller in a 4-4 tie. In a match that included two own goals and a sending off, Gavin Johnson grabbed two goals for Salford as did the famously named Lee Bowyer for Northenden. Anderson added another for Salford and Stewart also got his name on the score sheet for Northenden.

Altrincham and District Amateur Saturday Football League

In Division One the champions Knutsford FC met the side rooted to the bottom of the table, Quarry Bank, and came out 2-0 winners. Elsewhere Old York 06 made it six league games without a win after they drew 3-3 with the side directly below them in the standings, Trafford FC. Meanwhile in Division Two, Sale Amateurs kept the pressure on the Bridge Sale at the top of the table thanks to their 5-1 hammering of Timperley Wanderers; however the same can’t be said for third placed Styal FC who suffered a surprising 4-3 home defeat at the hands of NCC Group. In the two other games played Northenden Victoria picked up an emphatic 7-0 victory away at struggling Old Alts and Trafford United picked up a very credible three points on their travels, winning 2-1 at Salford AFC.

King George went through their last seven games without losing however, it wasn’t enough to catch the champions, Knutsford FC. Meanwhile in Division Two, The Bridge Sale now seem clear favourites to finish in top spot after a culmination of their 3-1 victory against Styal FC and Cringlewood Athletics surprising 3-2 home defeat in their meeting with second bottom Fernley FC. Despite currently lying second in the table, Sale Amateurs are seemingly playing for third place if you take into consideration the games in hand that both Cringlewood and The Bridge have on them. They certainly helped their cause on Saturday when they won 3-2 at Sale Rovers, their main challengers for the third spot. Elsewhere, NCC Group bounced back from their defeat on Monday and gained all three points against Salford AFC and Timperley Wanderers ended a run of seven league games without a win as they cruised past Northenden Victoria in a 4-1 victory.

Cringlewood Athletics scheduled fixture with Northenden Victoria was postponed and Timperley Wanderers bounced back from their defeat against The Bridge Sale the previous weekend to beat Sale Rovers 2-0.

Altrincham and District Amateur Saturday Football League

It was very much an up and down week for Division Two’s bottom side Old Alts. On Monday night they overcame tenth placed Brooklands FC by two goals to one to make it two league wins on the bounce however, on Wednesday they suffered a crushing 10-1 defeat at the hands of Cringlewood Athletic. Cringlewood followed up their emphatic win by claiming the Broadheath Central Cup on Saturday. Sale Rovers, their opponents, were moments away from claiming the trophy in normal time however a last gasp equaliser took the game to extra time and eventually penalties. Cringlewood came out 5-4 winners from the spot to make up for their disappointment on missing out on the Senior Cup. The night before the newly crowned Division One champions, Knutsford FC went head to head with their predecessors, Broadheath Central in an enthralling League Cup final. The match which was played at Trafford FC was also decided on penalties after the two sides couldn’t be separated over 120 minutes. Knutsford came out victorious and in doing so claimed the league and cup double. Congratulations to Cringlewood and Knutsford on their cup winning campaigns.
